Fantastic music. RIP.
I remember 2 albums he did. One was Albedo 0.95 (or something like that).
The second album I forget the name of but I remember the cover.
I prefer “crows on a telephone wire” to describe music notation.
RIP. I was just listening to a cut off his Opera Sauvage album last week:
And that led me back to this Chanel ad (1979) that Ridley Scott directed, Vangelis doing the music
I used to fall asleep on my ship to the Cosmos soundtrack.
One of my favorites
Composed some of the greatest movie scores ever. My favorite would be “Blade Runner”.

Opening scene and sound of “Blade Runner” is one of the best dramatic openings of any movie. The sound fits the mood of the scene so well.
Wish I could stream the movie.
RIP
It was also used in a Hamms beer commercial, ‘From the Land of Sky-Blue Waters.’
Completely agree.
Vangelis smoked like a chimney for most of his life. Sort of impressive he made it to 79, in a way.
Still, he was a true musical genius, and it’s quite a loss.
He almost single-handedly popularised the Yamaha CS-80, which he called the greatest analog synthesiser ever made.
Gutted. I was only a kid when Vangelis, and to a lesser extent Jarre, blew my mind.
My personal favorite - I’ll find My Way Home.

He wrote “Heaven and Hell” well before Cosmos used a piece of it as the Cosmos theme.
Somewhere around the 12'30’’ mark on the first side of the album the music fades and a solo piano takes up what would become the Cosmos theme. A synth string section provides an atmospheric pad under the piano, and then...
The voice of angel, rising high above all else. Chills, goosebumps and a blurry screen all at the same time! I have no doubts that Vangelis has already been put to work directing a heavenly choir and glorious music awaits.
RIP

Boring Oscar Best Picture saved by a great soundtrack.
I remember learning to play that on the piano when I was a wee lad. Good music, good times. May he rest in peace.
My brother came this || close to dying in his mid-50’s from what would have likely been an unremarkable case of the flu - except for his smoking.
Back OT though, Vangelis will certainly be missed. A very talented and cool guy who didn’t fall prey to many of the things wrong with the music business, and succeeded at a lot of the right things in life.
