I think the name “Smellie” might be in her future, a la Bags...

If I'm recalling a long-ago evening class correctly, doesn't that also mean "brave / bold" in Russian? That would be perfect. Heh.

Bold in Russian is Смелый. The first part is pronounced just like Smel. The last two letters sound like 'ih' and the 'y' in soy so the whole thing would sound much like 'smelly'.

Brave is Храбрый and would sound much like 'crabry'.
