Read Prodigal Soldiers by James Kitfield if you are interested in the genesis of the AF's Top Gun training and the rebuilding of the military after Vietnam. I just read it. that and several biographies of generals who effected the changes all end with the Gulf War which was fought totally differently. Alas we slid back into the VN syndrome of micromanagement by social workers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That's right. Air Force has its own in California. The hard training that was being given to all our troops before the Biden Purge and WOKE infusion is fascinating. Top Gun preceded the AF version but it is all based on intense debriefing of pilots in Vietnam as to what they actually met as opposed to what they were trained to face. The basis is that these generals came to the conclusion that America's method of starting a war with scanty military and losing the first battles while relying on America's production engine to eventually overwhelm an enemy was not good enough any more because the first battle is likely to be the only battle. So he new training and building was to insure that we win the first battle. But that was, of course, before the Democrats took control again. We went through the Obama Purge and realignment to social goals followed by the Trump start at rebuilding followed by the Biden much more extensive purge and total redirection toward perverse social goals and toward destroying morale.
I read a LOT because of my job as night security at a shipbuilding yard. 12 hour shifts leave me a lot of time between rounds and I read. No cell phone. I don't read fiction because I figure I have to learn something from any book. I read a lifetime's SciFi when I was a teenager, anyway.
