Watch: Autonomous Chinese Drone Swarm Flies Through Forest Hunting For Humans

This footage is truly terrifying when you consider the prospect that should scientists transfer the technology to Beijing, or perhaps even the military, they may utilize the superior drone technology to target humans. Watch as the autonomous Chinese drone swarm flies through forest while hunting for humans.

A swarm of micro-drones maneuvered a thick bamboo forest in China without using GPS, avoiding trees, branches, and brush. The stunning film shows that these drones could one day be employed for search and rescue operations or even more sinister purposes, such as human hunts.

Chinese scientists from Zhejiang University produced a report and video of ten lightweight drones flying across a forest at high speeds. The drones’ technology independently traverses the optimum flight route using high-tech sensors.

In a document published Wednesday in the journal Science Robotics, lead author Xin Zhou stated that “multi-robot aerial systems are a symbol of future technology” citing science fiction movies such as Prometheus (2012), Ender’s Game (2013), Star Wars: Episode III (2005), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017), which “inspired” the research group.

In another experiment, Zhou and his colleagues demonstrated that a drone swarm could pursue a human “target” through a forest.Watch: Autonomous Chinese Drone Swarm Flies Through Forest While Hunting For Humans  2

Enrica Soria, of the laboratory of intelligent systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, commented on the groundbreaking findings, telling The Telegraph:

“This work presents a notable contribution to the robotics community and an important step towards the application of drone swarms beyond the constrained environment of a laboratory, not only for exploration in forests but also for a range of safety-critical missions in human-made environments, such as urban areas with humans and buildings.”

What is frightening is that should scientists transfer the technology to Beijing, or perhaps even the military, they may utilize the superior drone technology to target humans, if just for domestic surveillance, or outfit it with weaponry for the modern warfare.

Around five years ago, the world’s top AI researchers and humanitarian organizations issued a warning concerning lethal autonomous weapons systems, often known as killer robots, that pick and execute targets without human intervention. This dystopic film depicting “slaughter bots.” was released by the Future of Life Institute.

I wonder how good the algorithm is at dodging 00 buckshot.

If they mounted 3 sharp blades on them, it would be like Phantasm redux.

Just a note: The US company Skydio makes a pretty good autonomous drone. I have one that can fly though or over the woods on its own if you give it keyframe points to navigate to/from. It can also spot things (e.g., people, cars, etc.) That Skydio recently got a military contract should be no surprise, given that the most popular drones (e.g.DJI Mavic) are manufactured and exported under CCP control.

I look at what I see as damage from people who can’t be alone, can’t put their phones down, can’t let their kids be, have to check their FaceBook or Twitter, and on an on.

I find it disconcerting.

As someone who has had very positive exposure to AI in my professional sphere, I can see the positive side which I fully support.

However, there has turned out to be a duality to this technology tool that I simply never saw thirty years ago when I jumped fully onboard and became an early adopter and advocate.

It was so naive of me, but...I saw only the good in it. I never stopped to take into account there were people who would do evil with, and my God, how evil they have become. What the Communist Chinese have become is what the East Germans dreamed of, but never had the technology to implement: A constant, unblinking surveillance state, tied directly into the organs of government that could be employed to full effect to tyrannical ends.

I was so starry-eyed with the Good. I saw so much promise. I was so caught up I forgot human nature is unchanging.

That line from Freeper thundersleep’s post from Jurassic Park really did ring true:

“Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.”

I feel damned embarrassed that I took my eyes off the human nature side.

Read up on a guy named Edgar Cayce.
