Strom Thurmond, of course, did not wade ashore at Normandy. At age 41 he landed in Normandy in a glider and during the campaign earned a bucket full of medals.
I wouldn't mind having had lunch with him or other WWII veterans - but only after telling them I was morally superior to them.
