Odd question on the News Blast list: "Have you ever been far enough out in the ocean that you couldn't see land?"

I've tracked across charts covering 1200 nautical miles on each side, and not a speck of solid land on the whole chart -- just beautiful blue, and some imaginary lines.

However ... The nearest land is never more than six miles away.

-—see land? would a submarine count? Couldn’t see anything and tried not to smack the nearest land.

PR and I have made the crossing between North America and the Sandwich Islands several times under sail. Nothing like a month at sea to revive the soul. But the North Pacific is far from pristine and is getting worse. Hawaii to Alaska, day 17 - Trash Watch 2012. It was like that for two weeks.
