One mystery of looted WWII art which intrigues me is what happened to The Amber Room, looted from St. Petersburg. The Nazis hauled it off, possibly to Königsberg. Was it destroyed in bombing? Hidden in a cave? Sunk into a lake? Inquiring minds want to know.

Highly plausible an American GI brought it home from Europe and it sat in his house for 70+ years. He passed and the heirs disposing of the estate took it to the thrift store.
