When my m-i-l was in the rehab facility we got a bill from the nearby hospital and paid it. When Mrs. ArGee was talking with the rehab billing person she asked why she’d gotten a separate bill and was told, “They’re notorious for billing people without submitting to insurance first.”
So we checked and, sure enough, we’re owed a refund.
We’ve been trying to get that refund since March. It’s still not here.
I called my state rep to ask if they wanted to investigate the possibility that people do this with seniors in the hopes they won’t have the capacity, or time, to follow through.
I’m not surprised. I felt like I’ve been given the “bum’s rush.” So I’ll start calling more often.
I’ll have to think about that, because it sounds like a good idea. I’ll also ask FD if she has noticed anything like that (she deals with insurance companies on a daily basis) and what solutions are available for folks like me.
