Cortez wiping out the Aztecs was like allied armies liberating WAII death camps. Thank god for those conquistador heroes.
Wow. First part true...the Aztecs and other indigenous civilizations in that area were horrible. The Mayans were the worst. They reveled in torture and were experts at it.
However, the Spaniards were NOT heroes. They raped almost EVERY woman who came of age for 300 years and almost completely mixed the race into the "mestizo" category. The Spaniards were not good people and left a legacy of catholic corruption there which has left Mexico still tremendously corrupt with massive drug trafficking as a major pillar of the economy.
The Spanish were absolutely horrified by what they saw...it is in their writings of the time. They described beautiful towns with flowers adorning everything, but everywhere there was the stench of the decaying bodies of those sacrificed to their “gods”.

We have high volume mounds (even artistic mounding, in some cases in the shape of serpants) all over North America, and the US, where we know there volume partially consists of bones from mass “genocidal type” deaths - men, women, and children.
Not all the same groups either.
If I came upon human sacrifice, including wen and children, I would wipe out all involved.
It is worth noting that Cortez and his 300 odd men didn’t topple the Aztec empire alone. They had a lot of help from the tribes who were victimized by them.
