We can’t babysit Europe in perpetuity.
***I keep running into this self-affirming a priori bullshiite assertion. We did the right thing when we took a bunch of nukes that could kill billions of souls off the table. We should do the right thing by that agreement which assures sovereignty to the country that did the right thing in giving up their nukes.
Time for them to put European lives on the line if necessary and write their own checks.
***I agree it is time for them to step up; in the past it was time for us to step up and we did, and we got those nukes off the table. We obligated ourselves towards Uke sovereignty by that very same agreement.
The majority of NATO members still do not meet their obligations IIRC… and refuse to do so.
***I know. But the ratified treaty of the UN NNPT was not a NATO document.
Time to let them pay the proce and handle European problems.
***It was time for us to address nuke nonproliferation in 1994, and we did so. We obligated ourselves morally towards Uke sovereignty so it is time for us to fulfill that obligation. Otherwise we should just be giving the ukes back their nukes so they can regain their own sovereignty.
Not to mention they gladly mooch and beg, then hate us.
***They weren’t mooching nor begging when they gave up those nukes. They’ve been invaded twice due to giving up their nukes. We betrayed them.
I believe if the US cared about nuke proliferation they would not have paved the way twice for Iran to develop nukes.
That said, I don’t believe we will change each other’s positions on Ukraine.
And I’m fine with that. I wish you well.
