It’s a classic, but I love the ‘39 story. They got intergalactic travel perfect.

Do you realize how old the song is? Not 1968, closer to 1698.

The Happiest Days of Our Lives, better known as the intro to Another Brick in the Wall, pt. 2.
As a kid, I used to like Come Sail Away by Styx. Slightly cringy now.
Wierd Al’s the Saga Begins, standing on the shoulders of Don McLean’s American Pie.
The Police’s Don’t Stand So Close to Me, if that’s truly a story song.
Comfortably Numb is part of a rock opera, the same one as The Happiest Days of Our Lives. Most rock-opera songs don’t tell a complete story in their own right, but it does advance the story significantly.

There’s a Robert Heinlein story that reminds me of ‘39. Wish I could remember the name of it.

Two more that are sort of story songs: Paradise by the Dashboard Light by Meat Loaf and Billy Joel’s Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.

Love Barleycorn. Even have a recording of Jethro Tull doing it.
I’d add Thin Lizzy’s “For Those Who Love to Live” to what I expect is already a fantastic list.

They were all educated, not your typical rock band. Saw them in 1978. Just spent 4 weeks in Florida at a well-known 55+ community. During a rousing game of Music Trivia we had about 100 people singing all 6.5 minutes of Bohemian Rhapsody. So fun.
