Btw, while it had been around since the late 19th century, in the 1960s, "mentally retarded" was pushed by the shrinks as a neutral "scientific" term that avoided the negative connotations of those other, originally, scientific terms, "idiot" and "moron." Now they call it "neurodevelopmental disorder."
