Many years ago my 12 year old was assigned to read the book “on the beach” which is about the after effects of a nuclear war and people in the story end up committing suicide. She didn’t mention the assignment before starting to read the book. She became terribly upset and concerned about nuclear war and suicide and all that. The book was a traumatic experience for her. I read the book one night and was at the school the following morning meeting with the principal and several others to voice my displeasure. So it’s not just sexual content that can adversely affect kids, it is adult level content that is foisted on kids.

When people are traumatized they are much more malleable.
