She misses the point. It’s not that the mother can’t take care of herself. It’s to teach the boy that men should be protectors. This is the foundation of civilization.
I think it is more an indication of respect for your elders and the person that raised you.
Your mom/dad took care of you when you were a baby/child. They provided a safe and loving environment for you to grow up in.
You should in turn DO THE RIGHT THING and take care of your elderly parents when they are too old to take care of themselves.
Asian people personify this probably the best of any worldwide culture.
