Except that there is only one proxy in this one Ukraine, Russia is directly involved.
Spanish Civil War involved the Popular Front ( also called Republicans) made up of a diverse group of left leaning factions (left leaning does not do some of them justice) against the Nationalist’s much less diverse. Stalin was in my opinion willing to lose the war (which did happen) if his proxy party would not be in total control versus Trotskyite, anarchist and other groups. The Germans and Italians did learn some lessons, but maybe their success got masked by Stalin’s obsession and the fact that Franco was not a half bad General/Leader. Not taking up for him you just have to recognize things.
So what? If one of our carriers/carrier groups are attacked, that simply means we’re at war with the aggressor.

Yes. Lots of secondary explosions at the Kherson airport tonight, too. Russians moved in a ton of equipment to the airport from Crimea over the past 2 weeks to try to take Mykolaiv by May 9th. Not going to happen.

Those cheering the demise of the Moskva should consider the future survivability of our own CVN battle groups within a thousand or more miles of China, just for example. We might wake up to the news that one has been hit by Chinese missiles and is on fire in the not distant future. (Or hit by Russian or Iranian missiles, in slightly different circumstances.)
True. Which is exactly why it is not wise to project weakness in the face of Russian mass murder and genocidal tactics in Ukraine. A firm hand is needed here lest the Chicoms or Iranians think they have a free shot at the US.

The UK just sent a bunch of land-launched Harpoons to be emplaced at Odessa. If the Russian Navy wants to test them out that would be right neighborly of them!

MOSCOW, 14 April. /TASS/. The cruiser “Moskva” of the Black Sea Fleet was seriously damaged as a result of the detonation of ammunition that occurred as a result of a fire, the crew was evacuated. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry.
“As a result of a fire, ammunition detonated on the Moskva missile cruiser. The ship was seriously damaged. The crew was completely evacuated,” the military department said.
The ministry said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
