I’m skeptical about the “Chronicles of Geneva”. It’s written in very modern language for an article from the 1500s, and uses terms like “mortality statistics”, “paramedics”, and “subsidies” which probably didn’t exist as concepts in the 1500s.

Admittedly, someone had to translate it from the original French, but it can’t be a literal translation. There’s a lot of editorializing at the very least.
