Any idea on why Union Pacific is imposing such shipping reductions? The most I was able to garner was this comment
“Union Pacific spokeswoman Kristen South said the measures the Omaha, Nebraska-based railroad is taking are designed to address problems in the supply chain that have clogged rail shipments. The railroad has also brought 100 locomotives out of storage and shifted roughly 80 crew members to high-demand locations.”

The article is unclear why supply chain problems would cause rail lines to be clogged. Perhaps there is a back log of older orders that need to be processed which is limiting the capacity for new shipments.
The receiving end of rail freight cannot keep up with unloading requirements. They laid off and fired people (many for not being ‘vaxed’), and cannot or will not hire them back fast enough.
The terminal of the supply chain is slower than the rest of it.
