Keep in mind, the “laptop” was only one piece. IIRC, the computer repair shop had three MacBooks from Hunter. All Apple devices merge on iCloud, and once you have a master password, all backed up devices would be available to view, including archives, and perhaps deleted - but hidden - files that could be resurrected. So when we hear about “the” laptop, it likely means a whole suite of stuff from Hunter’s iCloud account, contents of his iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, etc.
