These stories get to me :-(
I once had to shoot a dangerous Pitt at my old place in New Mexico.
Had to be done, was attacking me in my own barn plus I had renters in a small trailer park on the property with small kids...
No way that dog and its accompanying pack was going to be left at large..
A friend loaned me his old 1911...
I curse the person who let that dog run wild and who was the cause of me having to shoot a dog... I did not like it :-/
Years ago we had a German Shepherd who would let my kids climb all over her but we lived on a small acreage where she stayed with us or our neighbor and their dogs. Friend of the neighbor towed a vehicle and was talking to the neighbor and my dog had left him alone. His wife came out to visit and the dog went behind the man and bit him through his jeans and broke skin.
Had to kennel her for 10 days and afterwards, I had the vet put her down. He said the first bite is free and unless I was willing to kennel her all the time, putting her down was the right thing.
Before I put her down, I called the guy who she bit and spoke to his wife. Told her if he needed a tetanus shot to get it and I’d pay for it. Told her I was putting the dog down and she got upset. Neighbor told me later that they had two Chows who had bitten people but refused to put them down.
It would have killed me if she hurt a kid. I believe she didn’t like the guy being around the neighbors wife but the vet said that it was concerning that she went behind to bite him.
Don’t feel bad about killing such an animal or pet.
God gave Man dominion over animals. We kill them as needed.
