This seems to be a more complete description of what happened between Rock and Smith.
Smith’s wife has alopecia and suffers from hair loss and Smith decided Rock’s (innocuous-to-me) comment about the wife’s performance or appearance in GI Jane was an insult about the hair loss.
Denzel Washington must be some kind of savant. Smith said during his acceptance speech that just before he was announced as the Oscar winner, Denzel told him “At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.” Smith apologized to everyone but Chris Rock.
I didn’t see any of this as it happened since I don’t care about these people or their self-congratulations, but things are a bit slow at the moment so I thought I’d look it up for everyone.
