Here in the Philippines, the increase in the price of diesel has already increased the cost of the winter harvest. And now fertilizer is up 40 percent.

Unless we get a better price for this harvest we will have to borrow to plant our next grow in June.

We had land reform, so small farmers we subcontract could go hungry without govt help. But one newspaper article said a lot of the large farmers who grow rice but have other income might just decide not to plant next season.

China is buying up grain and hoarding it. So scarcity could raise the price of rice...good for us but not for the urban poor.

Yes, exactly. It’s from that NOT the availability of grain.
