6 Teen girls in a car. One of them the driver. What could go wrong?
I can’t even tell what kind of car it was. I have never seen a car so destroyed that it looks like it evaporated.
Unfortunately kids don’t think ahead.
I guess we all think we’re bulletproof until something clues us in.
In my younger days I wrung the speedometer on my bike. The triumph had 140 on the speedo. I have no doubt that bike was giving all it had. I don’t remember it though because I was blind ass drunk at the time. A buddy of mine told me he was going 80mph and I flew by him like he was stopped.
In my youth there were many such adventures. At 28 is when I slowed down.
We all have to learn the hard way.
Some similar happened in the Syracuse area probably 15 years ago.
A carful of girls pulled out in front of a tractor trailer, and the official version was that nobody had any idea what happened.
What the parent of a girl who barely missed dying in that car told me was that the kids used to race their cars in the morning before school, and they decided to take one more lap, except the girl who missed dying. She got out of the car to make it to school on time.
The carful of 16 year old girls did one more lap and pulled out immediately in front of the tractor trailer, which couldn’t even have begun to stop, they were that close.
I really question the U-Turn issue. I used to live in Tishomingo. This location is a bit of a tricky turn. State Highway 22 intersects US 377 at an angle. They were on their lunch break. They were headed east. The high school in Tishomingo is on the east side of town. This accident happened on the far west side of town. At that intersection, if you are headed east, when you turn, you have to make an awkward left turn where you swing out across the southbound lane at an angle to get over to the east/north bound lane of 377. Most people swing way out and it almost looks like they are attempting a U-turn because you swing right then turn left. I think they were headed back to school, made a wide swing right then left and didn’t see the truck coming. They were in a Chevy Volt. 6 girls in a little Chevy Volt. Hit by an 80,000 lb truck going about 45. The outcome is to be expected. Just a horrible situation. Tishomingo is a very close-knit, small community. The original Capitol of the Chickasaw Nation is located there as well as Blake Shelton’s ranch and Red Dog Saloon. These kids were likely known by everyone. Prayers for their families, and for the poor truck driver who will have to live with this tragedy for the remainder of his life.
That sounds like a very reasonable interpretation of the driving situation.
It’s a terrible event.
Wow a Volt is a 4 passenger, not that being belted in would have made much difference here.
The driver of the truck got out and was frantically trying to help the girls, and in a state of anguish and grief he suffered a fatal heart attack. He passed at the hospital Tuesday evening.
I have since learned this is not true. The driver is physically fine. But mentally and emotionally devastated.
