It doesn’t, you can’t.
But there is one interesting quirk in Oklahoma that happened when Steve Largent was elected to Congress in 1994 to the seat Jim Inhofe was giving up. Inhofe was elected in a special election to the Senate that same day and he was certified and took his seat a couple weeks later, resigning from the House.
State law allowed (or required) the Governor to I guess kinda retroactively declare the general election to also be a special election for the House seat that wasn’t yet vacant at the time and “appoint” Largent to vacancy. I believe the House had to vote to allow him to be seated for the lame duck session before January.
