You need both. No reason not to have both.
[[6. Don’t Need to Restart the PC at Each Step]]
I seem to be getting more “you need to reboot” messages after updates lately-
All these are nice, but I would add:
“Accidently delete most or all of what you have on your drive, including the operating system with one or two clicks. (Windows gives you a fight if you try to delete needed system files)
I done that one.
11. Create a whole independent portable self contained Operating System with full customization and storage capabilities on a USB stick that you can plug in and run on any computer that will boot from USB. A whole separate computer on a stick, just borrow the hardware.
Crap, you beat me to 11. lol
I use both. I run Mint on my older laptops, I get a few more useful years out of them. Also uni-task machines run various distros based on the use. The main PC runs Windows.
That’s kind of a combination of #1 and #4
9. Create a Folder Named CON.
Finally, I’ve needed a folder named CON for decades now.
Nobody actually ever “uses” windows, they just suffer with it because of ignorance. I’ve been in this business professionally since 1986, and I know this stuff. Windows and Microsoft are a plague, like FauXi and Democrats, to put a political analogy to it. Sadly, the other Silicon Valley bug guns are much almost the same, but some less than others, so do your research and avoid the obvious tech-scam pitfalls.
This list is cringey, at a minimum (seriously, almost half of this list is something about how many flavors there are), and dangerous at most: looking at you #5. Linux IS NOT IMMUNE TO VIRUSES! As a matter of fact, every Black Hat convention for the last 5 years saw a Linux distro hacked FIRST with MacOS second.
That said, Linux has its place, and it’s a great OS for development.
False: you can still create and use a local account. You do not need a Microsoft account to use Windows 11.
I guess you are right. :)
They should have added the capability of persistent storage on #1 too though. Because as you know there is a huge difference between “test driving” from a stick and having a true full system on just a stick. I even have one stick with three full different distros stacked on it to choose from. lol
Thank you for this post... A little positive among the current negative. :)
Yeah--those hacks are not viruses. There is a difference.
Yes, the “no viruses” is like 10 years past its expiration date.
“As a matter of fact, every Black Hat convention for the last 5 years saw a Linux distro hacked FIRST”
And so far, it is limited to local physical hands on access to do it. Don’t let anyone you do not know use your computer.
This list is the main reason Lenox has only a fraction of the market of Windows.
Try explaining to grandma, who only wants to turn on the computer and see Pictures of her grandkids, why she needs to switch the latest ‘distro’.
They entirely missed talking about the difference in filesystems. If I want ZFS like features on Windows you have to run enterprise or the workstation versions of Windows. FAIL. And with Linux, the drivers for just about everything and anything are “in the box”.
