I’d love to see the study detailing how this creature will fit back into the ecosystem.

I'd vote in favor of simply turning these things loose in their former habitat - they've probably been displaced by other predators, but humans have introduced new species into areas they've never lived in for centuries, and we're still doing it. Re-introducing a native animal into the habitat it evolved in should not be controversial.

Of course, they probably won't do this.
