I think we all just played it by ear as we became parents for the 1st time.
The 1st was our guinea pig but we did the best we could.
I remember saying that when I have kids I’ll never say that and years later I would open my mouth and out would come that statement I would NEVER say, OMG I’m my mother, and I understood why my parent said that.
I had never really been around babies much, I knew I wanted to breast feed. They had automatically given me something to stop my milk, but letting him suck overcame it. I didn’t know anything. When I asked them if I could see him, all I could say was”that’s nice”. I didn’t know how to dress him to take him home.
But I was a fast learner, especially thanks to my son. He wad a handful from an early age, so smart.
