Will the Russian military go on strike because of the events in Ukraine? In some ways they have ALREADY gone on strike. The typical Russian soldier has NO motivation to go above and beyond the call of duty. Instead they are doing the least needed to just get by. An example of this was in a video I saw of a Ukrainian driving his car up to a Russian tank that had run out of fuel on a country road. He had sort of friendly banter with the Russian tanker and even some joking around. It was very obvious that the Russian tanker wasn't in the least bit concerned about the success of his army's military operations. Like a lot of other Russians sent to Ukraine, he just wanted to get out of the whole crazy situation alive and go home.
This attitude is probably spreading like wildfire among the other Russians in Ukraine. I've seen more video evidence of this including a captured teenage Russian soldier who cried while being castigated by the Ukrainians.
So do the Russians in the military want to DIE because of one apparent madman, namely Vladimir Putin? Even if no one attempts to actually overthrow him, they could simply NOT follow orders. And that goes not just for the lowly soldiers but his top generals as well.
Let's take it to the extreme. We know that Putin ordered his military on high nuclear alert. Let's assume that things continue going south for the Russians in Ukraine and Putin goes full out bonkers and orders a nuclear strike. Okay, what happens then? Putin can't personally push a button to send off the nukes. Military personnel actually have to follow orders. However, since it is obvious even to the Russians that such an order is INSANE and could lead to a nuclear conflagration that could lead to the end of world civilization as well as Russia itself, do you think such an order would be carried out? Probably not. Or at least let us hope not. Most likely a general on the receiving end of the order would come up with some excuse like, "Gee whiz! I tried to carry out your (insane) order but there was a cyber attack that prevented me from doing so." Likewise, the Russian military also cease operations in Russia. Driving a tank or missile carrier? Rather than be destroyed by an invisible drone above, better to just walk away.
BTW, we already saw something of the military go on strike in Russia when the Soviet Union collapsed. Remember the scenes of tanks sent out to their Russian Federation building after Gorbachev was deposed? They traveled a bit in that direction and just stopped. The soldiers then just hung out with the protestors.
End result of a general strike by the Russian military? Nobody obeys Putin's orders and if he is lucky he is arrested. One interesting outcome is that Putin is then turned over to the Ukrainians for a War Crimes Trial. That would make for some incredible TV ratings but perhaps I am getting ahead of myself.
We already see the outlines of a strike by individual Russian soldiers in the Ukraine so the question is will we also see a general strike EVERYWHERE by the Russian military in which they simply decline to follow Putin's orders?
Heck, we tried eating glue paste (in the little brush-top jar) in 2nd grade; it didn’t go too well.
Putin himself is finished. NATO itself may be finished either way

I think NATO in its current form is obsolete. Some other form of defense treaty organization needs to take its place.
A source tells me that many Russian tanks/heavy machines don’t simply run out of fuel — crews dump the fuel intentionally, as soon as they learn that their destination is Kyiv. After all they’ve been told that they were going as “peacekeepers” to “protect Russians” in Donbas. https://t.co/TDONFPaPdn— Fatima Tlis (@fatimatlis) February 27, 2022
The American taxpayers have been getting screwed for years.
Putin is both LBJ and Robert McNamara.
Putin could win, simply because he has so many different resources he could bring to bear, but it will not end well for either him or for Russia.
Or Afghanistan or worse.
“Your average Russian won’t take a dump without a plan”
Agree!
No doubt part of the nuclear alert is greater personal protection for Putin, his high level communications, and facilities essential to his survival. In other words, protection against a coup or assassination.
He served this time in the army and is now a civilian in Moscow protesting “NO WAR!”
So keep your eyes on that Russian armored column outside of Kiev (Did you ever eat "Chicken Kyiv?").
