Even as far back as you he 1960s Weight Watchers worked if you stuck to the program. They’ve probably tweaked it up some since then. Stick to it and good luck.
Dr. Eric Berg (chiropractor) has lots of videos about diet and nutrition, fat burning and other health matters.

Eat less, do more.
What is so complicated about this?
Yep. Carbs are leaving and we both like DARK chocolate. :)
“We changed our lifestyle, me along with him. I’m not diabetic, or even pre, but the dietician said that if we both did it, it’s more likely to stick. And healthier is good for us both. The lifestyle change has worked for him and its become permanent.”
That’s what I’m striving for.
“My recommendation, if you’re so inclined, get a referral to a dietician. :-)”
Thanks for the reminder. I can get a referral for a Dietician through the VA. I’ve been waiting for the ‘All Clear’ out of Madistan now that The Black Death has passed.
*ROLLEYES*
I hate that stupid town, but that’s where my VA hospital is located. :(
My opinion is eliminating food you like and enjoy is not a long term plan for success. Up your walking. Get a device to track your steps and aim for the 10,000 steps a day. Try Pilates. Not online. Go to a studio with good instructors. Get a mini trampoline and bounce for 20 minutes. Great for the lymphatic system.
As for food just watch the carbs in the evening. I try to do that and it’s hard.
Unless you have a bad back and you can’t walk very far then what? I loved to walk and did so every day then hurt my back. Can’t walk or stand for long.
Actually I had back problems before I started walking daily in 2003. Walking helps your back problems tremendously.
Dr. Berg is an excellent source.
I just can’t/won’t do keto.
I do a balance of healthy fruits and veggies.
Give yourself permission for one day every two weeks to eat whatever you want. But only one day. Could be a party, birthday, dinner out, whatever. Without a break life is too dull!
One thing you can try is switch from three meals per day to two per day. Breakfast around 10:00 and another meal around 4:30 or 5:00.
Whoever said “go to bed at night if you’re tempted to eat a late snack” has it right. You can also add a nice shower and bath. That forces you to pay attention to your body and you can appreciate progress you’ve made and think about not jeopardizing it for one night’s pleasure. Also you can decide what areas are still too chunky and determine to not make it worse.
Everybody’s different.
The best diet for me is to eat half at every meal. It works, it is simple. I never feel ripped off.
85% or more.

Very bitter
I only eat meat & only drink water.
No need for anything else to experience extraordinary health!!!
WW = starvation diet = not healthy.
walk, try to lift weights, don’t eat after 6pm ( no tv snacks) and alcohol counts if u like wine and beer.
don’t deny yourself anything, just eat less of it.
My dogs are my diet buddies- they each get 1/3 of whatever.
Go ahead and whisper “ice cream sandwich” in our house and it’s ON! also cut your self some slack- in your 60’s it is tough to lose and maintain.
good luck!!
I’ll just say ‘this’ about ‘that’ ....
I lost 65 lbs on low carb, real food. Size 18/1X pants when I started ... down to size 6-8 (might be TMI, but underwear down from an 8 to a 5). For comparison, I was mostly a size 10-12 (occasional 8) in high school/college & had no real weight ‘problems’ when I was young - not a chubby kid. My weight gain happened when I gave up showing horses/barn work & started working a bank auditing job in my early/mid 20’s - lots of stress, poor eating habits (lunch with co-workers was especially ‘killer’). Over the years, I worked hard to lose some weight, as much as 25 lbs at a time (WW, Lean Cuisine, low fat/high carb, aerobics/cardio classes, etc), then gained it all back & then some multiple times, weight creeping up more each time ... not an uncommon pattern for most people.
Now, the weight is still off 4 years later and I know how to keep it off. I feel fantastic & I’m the “healthiest” I’ve ever been in my life. Doing low carb gets rid of inflammation - my knees are no longer painful/stressed, arthritis in hands has resolved. BTW, most folks lose their weight low carb with little or no exercise - it’s not ‘required’ to lose the weight. Towards the end of my weight loss, I added HITT (high intensity interval training) - takes about 15-20 minutes 3 times a week and sets your metabolism on fire ... you lean out, build muscle.
You can eat VERY well low carb AND you will NOT be hungry (or ‘hangry’ as most folks get on calorie restricted diets). You do not have to count calories low carb.
Check out the visual guidelines (keto/low carb) at the link:
https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/visual-guides
I prefer saying I’m “low carb” - unfortunately, “keto” has been tagged as a ‘fad’ by the usual suspects because Big Ag & Big Pharma hate it. When people straighten out their metabolisms (obesity is a symptom), this cuts into their profits because, for example, overweight/obese lose weight, Type 2 diabetics reverse their condition & most come off insulin, autoimmune disease lessens or even resolves, high BP tends to comd down, etc. Just saying ... don’t let the term ‘keto’ put you off - it’s been misrepresented in the medical industrial complex with help from the media - it’s NOT a fad, but a powerful tool to reclaim good health.
I’ll quit now .... weight loss is individual and different things work for different people. If WW works for you, that’s fantastic! If you find WW is harder these day, you lose but gain it back (& maybe more) after a while .... there is “another way” and in general it works very well for most people. It’s not ‘one size fits all’ and adjustments are easily made.
FReegards & very best wishes for the pounds to drop!! ~Q
You can sign for the half marathon in Des Moines on June 4th that I signed up for! Not too far from Wisconsin .
I’m no where in shape right now, but working on it.
The big thing for me is that I restrict my calories to only consuming them within a one hour period each day. I eat until I'm full, or maybe even to the point of being stuffed. I can drink water or tea outside that hour. Coffee too if I'd have want to. Just nothing with calories. If I'd be over to somebody's house and they offer me cookies, or bars, or something, I'd eat them just to be polite. If I'm getting together with family, I'll eat meals with them. The one-hour rule is not a religious tenet. I'd make sure I don't make a habit of breaking it though.
I don't follow any specific diet. Almost everything I eat will be on somebody else's list of things to avoid, following their designed diets. Yesterday I had a big pot of oatmeal with plums, apples, raisins, strawberries, red hots candies, honey, tart cherries, bananas, and blueberry yogurt. V8 with added spices to drink. Today I made a can of tomato soup with a package of saltines and two toasted ham and cheese sandwiches with green tea to drink. Tomorrow I plan to have a big slab of apple/raspberry crisp with a pint of ice cream and green tea again. The day after that will be a couple of burgers made from a 1/2 pound of hamburger, four slices each of cheese and bread, and loaded on top with pickles, onion, mayo, and assorted other condiments. The next day will likely be a couple of sandwiches of frozen currants and honey on toast, along with a huge bowl of cereal, milk, and frozen plums, sweetened with honey.
If I'd feel like it, I'd eat a candy bar every day. If I'd be in the mood for it, it wouldn't bother me to eat a half dozen king-size snickers bars or a half of a party size bag of crunchy cheetos for my meal for the day. I haven't done that in a long time though, primarily because I've got so darned much food in my freezers from my gardens that I have to make an effort to work my way through it to free up space for this coming year's harvest.
RE: KETO see Joe Duff on YouTube =:^)
Yes, it is bitter . . . if you’re used to the taste of super-sweet milk chocolate. It’s an acquired taste. I’ve worked long and hard to acquire it.
