That is a pretty obscure reference, but I can recognize the back of Michael Gross’s head and I know the episode and the short story like the back of my hand.

That’s what I thought of too! Had to look it up. Thought it was Twilight Zone but it was The Outer Limits, “Inconstant Moon”. That was a great episode. Although I forget how it ended. I seem to recall I was disappointed in the ending. Maybe something like that the girl (a librarian?) ran off into the night leaving the guy alone at the end?
