That was pretty cool. Featured in the "Mad Men" series.
My parents were married three years earlier. February 20, 1959. I was born September 7 of 1962 so they had three years to just fool around with no consequences.

One advantage of getting old is you don’t have to read “history” you lived it.
I was 15 in 1962.
Hard to believe (or understand) the US has had over the years. America 2022 is not the same America as 1962.

What I remember about John Glen is his “NOT so proud” moment as the ranking Democrat on the Thompson senate hearing into the China influence on U.S. election funding into the DNC & Clinton campaigns. He did everything to torpedo the honest probe by the Republicans. I lost total respect for Glen.

Went on to be a worthless Democrat Senator who voted to acquit Slick Willy and was rewarded with a flight on the space shuttle.

I was in 1rst grade in Massachusetts. Teachers rolled a big TV into the gym and we all crowed around to watch.

They interrupted classes at Ft. Holabird to broadcast the entire liftoff over the intercom. I was amazed at how calm Glenn was over the sounds of the engines.

I pissed Glenn off once. I was at NASA in Houston and asked him “how could you bump someone from their seat who has been training for years so you can take a joy ride?”. He didn’t like that question much.......
