Years ago I was doing wintertime seed starting under
fluorescent lights in the basement. Tomato plants
and pepper plants and such. To start the outdoor
vegetable garden in May with nearly full grown plants.

I was working well for the gardening, but not for the house.
After a number of years of it, the basement became
infested with fungus gnats and - somehow - southern
crickets. So the gardening went back to outside and the
detached garage.

The gnats were annoying, but the southern crickets were
a menace. Brown crickets that bite - HARD - right through
your socks.

But just a few pots on window sills won't cause anything like
the earlier mess.

Southern Cricket -
(Not to be confused with the southern cricket frog,
which is a different thing - a frog, not an insect.)
