“John Mellencamp (four weeks with “Jack & Diane”)”

I always thought it was John Cougar. Did he get married or something?

Cougar is apparently his middle name. Maybe just for stage purposes.

He changed his name more than Kelly Clarkson.

No, a man just can't be a cougar.

John Cougar Mellencamp started his music career using just his middle name. At some point after his first album he added his last name to his official credits. So “Jack & Diane” should be correctly listed as John Cougar and his later work as John Cougar Mellencamp. He should never be referred to as John Mellencamp.

This shows that the author really does not not know his rock and roll.
