It was 100% along party lines. The NDP and Liberals stuck together. The Bloc, Green and Conservatives voted together. Some Liberals wanted to vote against it but were afraid the vote was turning into a confidence vote and they didn’t want to trigger an election or risk losing being the party in charge. They voted according to their own self-interests.
The spineless Senate is likely to confirm and then it goes to the Governor General for Royal Assent. We’ve had a massive letter writing campaign to the GG for a week now but I don’t know how it went outside my circle. I know 20 people who’ve sent emails to her asking her to refuse Royal Assent. They’ve passed it on to their 20. We shall see.
The Act is in effect for 30 days for now, but I have every expectation that it will be like the 15 days to flatten the curve. Today is day 708 of that “temporary” measure.
