I take 50,000 units of D2 (plant based) once a week. Had a really low vitamin D level (in the teens) before starting about six months ago, not sure where it is now.
Plus a few Yuenglings
Rarely have I gotten ill, let alone a cold in all that time.
Before Covid I was taking 10,000 daily plus K2. The PA told me my D reading was too high at 94, saying I should back off on the capsules. I did and the next test came in at 78. But now I’m taking 15,000 daily. She can go fly a kite.
I asked my doc specifically for D3 and zinc levels and he added magnesium. Reference level for D3 is 30-100 ng/mL and I came in at 50.8. Magnesium is 1.6-2.3 ug/dL and I came in at 1.9. Zinc is 44-115 ug/dL and I was 77. Calcium is 8.6-10.2 mg/dL and I was at 9.4.
K2 to keep the calcium in the bones and not the arteries is important. There is a such thing as too much vitamin D and calcium issues are the result. Ask to check your levels in your usual bloodwork.
generally, higher doses of D3 are safe because only the D1 form is the active form, and the body must convert D3 to D2 and then D2 to D1, and the conversion from D2 to D1 is tightly controlled by parathyroid hormone ...

Yep. My doctor ignored my request for test years ago finally when I got some symptoms that were worrisome he tested for B12 (super low) and for D my level was FIVE. @#&@

My doctor put me on 2000 vitamin D, and I get plenty of sun. Couldn’t tell you when I was last sick—with anything!
My sun worshiping husband did too. Scars all over his back.
I almost never wear sunscreen but then again, I don't sit out in the sun either. I'm always looking for a shady spot to sit in. At the beach or on a boat, I'll wear sunscreen.
In fall of 2020, my husband and I started taking 5000 IU’s of VitD3 and Zinc. A year later, in Sept of 2021, my daughter-in-law’s dr had her taking 5000 IUs VitD3 and zinc. My son started late November 2021. At Thanksgiving of that year we all got Covid. My young healthy DIL recovered first. Me - 66 and overweight not on any medications - and my husband, who is thin with congestive heart failure, had it a bit rough for two weeks but did ok. The one who had the worst case was my son, who is young (38 yrs old no other health problems)who had just started taking the VitD3. We all recovered with no hospitalizations and continue to take the VitD3.
My primary physician did not want to test my Vitamin D level because I would not go along with her “safe and effective” propaganda and get vaccinated, so she was snotty. But I insisted. When my tests came in, guess what? She told me my results were normal, but according to this article, they were borderline low.
I’m now casting about for a new doctor. Why would any doctor resist testing an older female for vitamin D deficiency at any time, covid or no covid? And why does she not know what is a proper range of blood levels? Vitamin D deficiency is a precursor to breast cancer and all kinds of other diseases.
I’ve been taking 10,000 IU’s of D3 for years. Osteoporosis runs in my family and calcium supplements work better if you have enough vitamin D. I also take zinc, vitamin C, and magnesium. I’ve been doing this for a long time. Had my vitamin D level checked a year ago. It was in the 60’s.
My recent bout with covid was relatively mild. The cough is still annoying but I did pretty well. I credit my supplements and losing 10% body weight since March 2020. Screw you, covid!
There is a very good app called Dminder that helps track your vitamin D levels, particularly from exposure the sun.
I would like to be on your ping list. Here is a recent article showing that business is finally paying attention to supplements as solution to deaths. You might want to post this.

I also have super-immunity having had Covid-19 early on and still carry the antibodies for it, I'm checked every 6-8 weeks for them via blood draw.
With all that, I was exposed to Delta at least 4x, never caught it.
I've been exposed to Omicron more times than I can recall now and never caught that either. I spent the weekend with my GF on a local ski trip, right at the point she was most infections with it. Still, didn't catch Omicron.
One of the men in my weekly bible study had it, all 12 of us were in a closed room with him for several hours during a study of Matthew. I didn't catch it, several others did.
I'm either super lucky (ha, right) or the above supplements along with my immunity WORKS. I think they work.
I'm also immune system suppressed due to a genetic condition I have, so I have to be careful about being exposed to the virus. The thing with the Omicron variant, it's a sneaky little bastard and it infects as many as it can. If I was going to catch it, I'd have caught it by now. More proof that supplementing Vitamin D and the rest I cited above works as a mitigation strategy.
Just my own opinion of course.
