We wanted to believe them, we actually accepted them for a while then we questioned them and subsequently we rejected them. It’s a natural sequence of events. Covid. We believed them, accepted their facts, after a while questioned them then finally rejected them. climate change, we believed them, we accepted their facts, we questioned them and finally rejected them. There are other examples too numerous to detail.

That works for me except for Christianity. The more I looked into it, the more there was moral genius there.

It helped when I realized that even the enemies of Christ at the time acknowledged that He died for mere words, for blasphemy, for claiming to be equal to God Himself.
