Problem is, “build it and they will come” doesn’t apply to a website and facebook is already a huge network with millions of members that can ‘share’ posts and things can “go viral”. Meanwhile that website that you and I can both build in a day or three will sit there empty and no one will know about it, unless we share a link on facebook/twitter.
What’s needed is for the masses to pick one of the federated/distributed social networks to move to. Mastadon, friendica, hubzilla, gnusocial etc. All are interoperable with each other, all are open source and anyone with VPN hosting can install an instance. People keep their data and can move to a different server with that data.

The majority of people who use social networks use fb/twitter and many get their news from them.
Until people get away from proprietary SAAS, fb/twitter/discord etc have the power to censor. The open source alternatives are a little trickier to use which is why it will probably never happen. People are too lazy to spend a few days learning something.

In most cases, you’d probably need to use a DDNS service to take care of the dynamic IP that most ISPs use.
Thank you for sharing those. Yep, standard news blog with video embedding. Quite a few of these scripts available. And they can all be customized as far as the graphics and “Window dressing” goes.

I agree, you are absolutely right about the viewer base these social platforms do have. But it does no good if they give you the boot. They are however more apt to let everyone share links to outside domains even though they will not personally host an account.
The decentralized blockchain clients I have been working for a bit as you know. I am really liking the Zeronet where you can build actual websites. I think we are going to need to move to this concept pretty soon the way this is going. So I am trying to get ahead of it. About to fire up a browser a guy built for and incorporates Zeronet to see if it works well. :)
I like your personal server project. When I had my own VPN server set up I had to get a static IP address from a static IP provider. Without it being static I could not reliably port forward with the VPN server.

Convoy to “DC” probably wasn’t the best name. Freedom Truckers or something would have been better. The MSM is still talking about the “insurrection” in “DC”.
Let’s get on facebook and start a page about heading to DC to protest the dem admin. You know, the same facebook run by Zuckerberg who helped steal the election for those dems? Yeah, that’s the ticket. LOL

Problem is, fb is still the best place for exposure to the masses. They should have just been more discreet in how they went about it and chosen their words carefully.
Can’t exactly say we’re going to DC to protest the biden admin on a platform run by a guy who helped steal the election for the biden admin.
Everyday Americans need to wake up to the fact that the USA is a lot like Germany when Hitler was gaining power.
Choose your verds carefully on zee communist platforms.
It will be extremely interesting to see how the U.S. government reacts to this as compared to other governments. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see tanks and strafing fire from aircraft from that murderous bunch.
