“only American conservatives can be Christians?”
You deliberately distort what I’ve written. I’ve said ZERO equating “American” with “Christian”. ZERO!
BUT: Yes, when someone follows Jesus, following Him will change how they view the world and will limit what they will call acceptable behavior. You cannot pretend homosexuality is good, acceptable or even natural while still following Jesus. You cannot pretend shacking up is OK. You cannot pretend that voting to support the poor is the moral equivalent of actually doing so yourself.
Let’s be clear: As one pundit put it decades ago, liberals plan to go before God on Judgement Day and say, “But God, I gave OTHER PEOPLES’ MONEY to the poor!”
You cannot worship Jesus and worship Big Government as well. You cannot grovel before government as the Authority in Life and follow Jesus. “But Peter and John answered them, “You yourselves judge which is right in God’s sight—to obey you or to obey God.” - Acts 4
Liberals worship government. Christians cannot. That includes not worshipping the US government. As CS Lewis put it:
“It is a serious thing to live in a society of possible gods and goddesses, to remember that the dullest most uninteresting person you can talk to may one day be a creature which,if you saw it now, you would be strongly tempted to worship, or else a horror and a corruption such as you now meet, if at all, only in a nightmare. All day long we are, in some degree helping each other to one or the other of these destinations. It is in the light of these overwhelming possibilities, it is with the awe and the circumspection proper to them, that we should conduct all of our dealings with one another, all friendships, all loves, all play, all politics. There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors.”
No liberal would write “Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat.” Yet that is the unmistakable conclusion of Christianity. Liberals would require every knee to bow before “Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations”. We cannot. And no one led by the Holy Spirit will continue to bow before “Nations, cultures, arts, civilizations” - which makes Christians the ultimate subversives.
Indeed, Jesus was the one who held up the coin and pointed out that it was Caesar's face upon it. "Give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar." He literally said that your money belongs to the government. Jesus did not have the views you ascribe to him. He did not have modern political views.
And there is nothing to indicate that homosexuality (lust) was any higher on his list of sins than pride, gluttony, or sloth. For all you know, being morbidly obese would offend him more than being gay. You don't know. You just assume.
