May God rest the souls that when down with the ship. I find the picture of gun at the bottom right very haunting, as it appears to have a coat or jacket hanging from it. I know that that is highly unlikely, but now I recall pictures from the Titanic footage and there was a singular pile on the ocean floor of what appeared to be shoes and some clothes on top. Undisturbed from long ago. Absent only the flesh that was once inside.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a larger turn out of NYPD for a fellow officer’s funeral.
In addition to being a genuine show of respect for a fallen brother and of support for a grieving family, I could not help but think that this tremendous display of solidarity is a message to those who have betrayed and continue to betray the NYPD and law-abiding citizens.

The definitive book to read about this battle is “The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors” by James Hornfischer. That kind of courage is what you hope to have.
