I woke this morning and there were ice flows about a hundred yards out. And visible water vapors were rising off the water. Now the ice and the vapors are gone, And the lake is indistinguishable from the same lake on a summers day. Except there are no boats.
The lake is different every day. And its often very different from sunrise to mid afternoon. Most days it changes several time. On a slow news day, I could write a news story on the lake every day. Yesterday the bald eagles were courting each other with acrobatic flights. The trout and salmon must be coming to the surface for the big birds to feed on.
If a writer wants to describe the lake he is doing it a disservice by statically describing a slice in time. The lake is change.
Years of occasional looking out over the lake, on a few days you could see “something” on the other side!
Guessing the wind blew the pollution out? Mirage?
We had enough elevation so the horizon was not a problem.
Another interesting and more frequent event was a Chicago police boat that passed come hell or high water!
Huge waves splashing over LSD, and they would be out there, sometimes you would lose sight of them in the waves!
