Owning a Dutch oven is proof that you’ve made it. No matter what else is going on in your life, you can come home to a dependable piece of cookware that will cook soups, stews, braised meats, and bread better than any other piece of equipment in your kitchen.
My Le Creuset Dutch Oven is one of my prized possessions. It’s bright orange—a color I intentionally chose because it’s the brand’s signature hue—and has a gold knob, that I swapped myself and never looked back. Who needs a dining room tablewhen you have a Le Creuset Dutch oven? (Don’t answer that, I know how it sounds.)
Of course, Le Creuset isn’t the only brand that makes dutch ovens. Nowadays you have your pick from established kitchenware brands like Emile Henry, Staub, Cuisinart, and Lodge to newcomers like Great Jones and Misen. They come in a rainbow of colors, a whole host of different sizes, and in both oval and round shapes. There’s a Dutch oven to fit every budget and every kitchen. And once you obtain one, there are all kinds of great ways to fill it.
For regular weekdays and snowy weekends, there’s tortellini, chuck roast, sweet potatoes, kale, chicken thighs, and lentils that are yearning to be turned into a delicious one-pot meal.

I’m going to have to disagree with you on that one. When I was in high skrool, someone made sure that each dead armadillo beside the road in our town was upside down clutching a Lone Star long-neck bottle.
I have my dutch oven and my cast iron and my knives and my cutting board....

Leprosy is an ancient disease, the oldest disease known to be associated with humans, with evidence of characteristic bone pitting and deformities found in burial sites in India as far back as 2000 B.C.
It’s thus only natural that many might think the disease is a relic of the past. My studies in 2018 in a Brazilian state where the disease is prevalent shows that leprosy is closer to us than we might think, however. The disease is growing in armadillos. And while these animals are not exactly the cuddly type to which humans are drawn, armadillo-to-human contact is spreading. And, when the species do interact, armadillos are giving leprosy back.
My Le Creuset is a heavy bugger and my wife hates to try and lift it. But she does love all the things I cook in it. I make a beef stew that starts with anchovies and garlic that is a regular as well as some corned beef New England dinners that come around three or four times a year.
Sure I have some cast iron for camping and the grill as needed. but with about ten pieces of this flame red I know I can handle any task with ease.

I'm old enough to be a great-grandmother, and I've already passed down my grandmother's cast iron dutch oven. She was born in the 1880s.

Full disclosure: my wife got rid of her Le Creuset a couple of decades ago, including the dutch oven. Le Creuset aluminum pots and pans may be hazardous to your health.
