It’s been reported that the people devoted to making sure the voyage happened had initially been unable to get enough passengers to make the voyage viable, so they started inviting some very wealthy people to be passengers for free. Then they used the presence of those people to entice others to make the trip.
There are quite a few odd things about that voyage. I imagine someone knows what the truth is. When you have a rumour of this magnitude that just won’t go away, even after a century, there’s often something to it. The big takeaway is that we’ve been stuck with the Federal Reserve, which doesn’t seem to serve the interests of the US.
