Margaret Sanger published her first pamphlet in 1914. She opened her first birth control clinic in 1915. In 1921 she founded the American Birth Control League which would later become Planned Parenthood. Her goal was to rid the world of “undesirables” and the “unfit,” meaning blacks, Jews, and anyone else not white. She also believed in forced sterilization of the “defective.” She published and edited “The Birth Control Review” from 1917 to 1929, and it was full of her screed. Several well known racists (real ones), Nazis, and other anarchists wrote articles for her publication, as well. As seen in her writings, she was a huge proponent of eugenics. She joined the “Women’s Committee of the New York Socialist’s Party” in 1911. She divorced her first husband in 1921 and remarried in 1922, which was scandalous for the times. These are just a few “highlights” of her life.
And today is the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. 😥
