We knocked down 100,000 acres of jungle north west of Saigon in six months. We spent the nights at firebase. One base by the Back Virgin mountain had one track mounted 8”er, 2 155s, 2 175s, about 20 105s, 20 tanks, 20 APCs and a company off infantry. Mad Minutes were fun. B52s raised a ruckus at nights along with Puff. Air strikes all day. I have a picture of a 500 lb bomb with dozer tracks on it.
Quite an adventure for a 19 year old Engineer.
Thanks to you and everyone who served back then. I had a draft card, but before I turned 18, they canceled it. I would’ve served if called, but I was too chickenxxxx to enlist. Wasn’t gonna run off to Canada.
