The “real” Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Clarence Thomas,

That brings to mind something I don't understand: I always assumed that a Chief Justice would be the longest serving justice. Or one elected by the other justices.

Does anyone know how a prez (Bush) could install a CJ (Roberts)?

Neither. The Chief Justice position is a separate position subject to presidential appointment and confirmation by the Senate.
