This campaign against companies (Chinese and foreign) for supposedly insulting in their advertising Chinese women for the way their eyes look, which supposedly confirms to Fu Manchu-type stereotypical imagery, has been going on for a couple of months now.

It is absolutely true that through WWII this imagery was commonly used at least in the US to mock East Asians in a disgraceful way. But now evoking this is just claptrap for the new breed of Chinese nationalists.
