“That is why it is so important to find a good Bible believing church.”
We’re in that dilemma now. When we moved to TN we assumed it would be easy to find a good, fundamental, traditional Bible-believing church. It was NOT.
We’re Baptist so that’s where we looked first, and they are EVERYWHERE here. Sadly, most have gone “modern”, and we don’t return. (We would have gone to a different denomination if we’d found a church preaching the Word and had dignified, respectful services.)
After a few years, we found an excellent church. The young people are engaged and committed. The song service before the sermon was dignified, i.e., not a floorshow. No Vegas wannabes prancing around the platform caressing mics. The sermons were amazing. The “amen corner” was not too rowdy.
The pastor got very ill and had to retire suddenly (Parkinson’s). The Pulpit Committee is bringing in candidates now. Oy! Most have a modernistic slant and now we’re looking again.
Yesterday we watched Robert Jeffress’ service on TV. Sometimes we stream one of my cousins’ services. But we like to be IN church.
Good preachers/churches are tough to find up here.
I gave up going as I went to a few and they were all headed up by what I call SJ pastors. Normally that stands for Social Justice, and that absolutely applies, but I always noted that they wore skinny jeans. So I started calling the Skinny Jeans pastors, and they were all the same.
My daughter’s family left their last church when the pastor was casually speaking one time and mentioned that they were soon going to visit the subject of man/woman marriage. He hinted that the Bible might not be quite so clear on that as you think. She never did hear the message - left right away.
I would say that now there are more “woke” pastors than Bible preaching pastors.
I liken it to the difference between Charles Stanley (whom I like) and Andy Stanley, his son (whom I can’t stomach).
I know what you mean.
That is why I felt blessed to have found the small country church.
The pastor preached the Word.
He was a “tentmaker” like Paul—worked by day and worked for the church in his off-time.
And never went to seminary.
But God gifted him in so many ways.
I often would joke with him—if you went to seminary, it would have ruined you!.
I joined him one Sunday a month for services at a nearby state prison for many years.
His preaching was amazing, and the men loved him.
COVID put an end to that though, since March 2020.
The Lord will lead you to the place He wants you to be.
And when you are there, you will know it.
