If you visit the Mennonite areas you will think you have traveled back in time—they are unaffected by the modern craziness.
Ignore the mass media headlines—and visit the area for yourself.

By western, I'm assuming you mean Rochester and Buffalo, because living here in Rome, NY, that's the western part of the State, and they are nothing but liberal bastions. Even Syracuse is crime ridden and full of liberals.
