I’ll go further and call it the best film version of a Broadway musical ever made. Right there with TSOM and “Fiddler on the Roof”.
It’s too late. The TRUST is gone. It will have to wait for a year or two until it gets to DVD, etc.
Once that trust/brand is ruined, you cannot make nearly as much money off your investment.
TRUST/INTEGRITY over time is so powerful. And...when you lose it, it is VERY VERY difficult to get back.
Hmm, that seems a tough call to make. There were many excellent musical adaptations. Sadly, I think the genre died by 1970 (even with “Fiddler”). The culture and its tastes had changed. Sadly, not for the better.
