Why did they have that stupid word to begin with?
You can’t take gender out of language.

Especially out of Romance languages!
Gender is actually a linguistic concept. Living creatures do not have a gender they have a sex.
The conflation of those two things is where they started getting stupid, then of course, they got even stupider, then they went mad. That’s where we’re at now.
