Gosh, heard this song on satellite radio the other day

This song brought back memories from Jimmie Rodgers who was a legend. I believe he passed earlier this year if I'm not mistaken. RIP Jimmie.

James Frederick “Jimmie” Rodgers (September 18, 1933 – January 18, 2021) is not directly related to the earlier country singer Jimmie C. Rodgers (1897–1933), who died the same year the younger Rodgers was born.

I originally thought you were referring to Jimmie Rodgers from the 1930s.

Wouldn't you like to see THIS on today's Top 10 list?!?!

Right in the face of today's narcissistic woke culture!

So glad you posted this. I remember the refrain but was never aware of the rest of the lyrics.

That one made the Top 40, reaching #31 on the Billboard Hot Hundred. It was written by Ernie Maresca, who wrote Runaround Sue for Dion Di Mucci and Party Girl for Bernadette Carroll. He also had a hit of his own with Shout! Shout!.

Honeycomb, Bimbombay, Kisses Sweeter than Wine, etc. He suffered from a rare voice condition that ended his singing career.

The Jimmy Rodgers referred to here had a string of hits that began in the fall of 1957 with Honeycomb, a song that made it onto the playlists of radio stations out here like KFI and KLAC, which usually didn't play rock and roll. It then became a favorite Oldie and was a fixture on KWIZ, which played mostly Oldies and was my go-to station in my high school and college years.

I loved Jimmie Rodgers. I loved Kisses Sweeter Than Wine. He was a great singer. Didn’t he have a head injury during a robbery or something? I forget. RIP Jimmie

One good thing about YouTube is having access to music that you could never experience on local radio stations or music stores and it’s all free.

A few years ago I stumbled across a woman named Sister Rosetta Tharp. She was playing rock and roll sounding guitar music in the 1940s.

I love Youtube for that reason, despite its becoming more woke and ad-ridden in recent years. On Youtube, I've found many songs that I had been trying to find for decades as well as hundreds of songs on that I didn't know existed but that I now like.

Sister Rosetta Tharp was amazing! We also discovered her through youtube.

Youtube is extremely annoying, but I guess I do owe them some credit.

The singer who recorded the hits “Honeycomb,” “Kisses Sweet Than Wine” and many other popular songs during the 1950s and 60s has died

Jimmie Rodgers, singer of the 1957 hits “Honeycomb” and “Kisses Sweeter Than Wine” whose career in music and movies was disrupted by a severe head injury a decade later, has died at age 87.

Rodgers died from kidney disease on Jan. 18 in Palm Desert, California, and had also tested positive for COVID-19, publicist Alan Eichler said Saturday, citing family.

Rodgers performed for $10 a night around Nashville while stationed there with the U.S. Air Force after the Korean War. He appeared on a talent show and got an audition with Roulette Records, which signed him after hearing him perform “Honeycomb,” a song by Bob Merrill.

Jimmie Rodgers died from tuberculosis in 1933.

He even cut a couple of songs about his battle with tuberculosis.

TB Blues (1931)

Whipping That Old TB (1932)
